FRIDAY workshop at Searsport Shores Oceanfront Campground: (Followed by a picnic and guided uke jams) Anne Ku: Workshop - 5:00 - 6:00 Searsport Shores Oceanfront Campground: - $10 How to Make a Song Sound More Interesting and Fun to Play: Every song has its own history and different artists’ interpretation of it. How do you bring life to a song so that it doesn’t sound like the others? You can tell it like a story, with a single strum per chord in the verse. You can get a group to sing acapella. You can use the ukulele as a percussive instrument for some portions of the song. You can repeat certain stanzas, split your group to call and response, use echoing effects. Learn and practice the different tricks to make a song more interesting than written. SATURDAY workshops held at the Belfast Boat House. Del Rey: Workshop - 9:30-10:30 Boat House - $15 Ukulele Blues Party I: Jugband and blues songs orchestrated for the ukulele, with playing and singing parts for several levels of player. We’ll work on getting that old-timey sound on your uke, with the right rhythm, chord positions and where to find the melody. Plus we’ll try and listen to each other and play together. We’ll add parts for basic chords, strumming, picking and singing. Basic level: be comfortable and confident with first position chords and able to keep time while changing between them. By ear, no TAB. Re-entrant tuning (Standard high G, C, E, A) preferred. JEFFREY WEINBERGER: Workshop - 10:45-11:45 Boat House -- $15 Solid Strums and Neat Tricks: In this workshop, Jeff Weinberger breaks down how to be a reliable, steady strummer, solo or in a group. You'll learn to convey the feel of the music and add life to it. He also helps you add little flourishes and effects here and there to take humdrum strums and transform them into passionate rhythms!
